At Fixer on the Roof, we are one of the best roofing contractors in Toronto, our roofers have several decades of experience in working on Toronto roofs and have pretty well seen everything. As a homeowner in Toronto or a new home buyer here, one should be aware of the potential problem you may encounter.

Premature aging, roof repairs and roof replacements are often caused by structural design, climatic or location issues that are unique to Toronto. The mighty maple tree which is as common as parking tickets in Toronto, each winter we can expect at least one heavy snow ice build up on the rooftop, and every summer an intense heat wave brings with it at least one forceful thunder storm. All of which result in a wave of new emergency roof repairs.

Many of the local neighborhoods have their own unique challenges:

The “Annex Style House” is an architectural style unique to Toronto, which was developed by architect EJ Lennox in 1887 and over the next couple of decades. The style became quite popular with the wealthy in Toronto at the time. The area spanned from Seaton Village on the west to Yorkville on the east, that same year it was annexed by Toronto and became known as, guess what, The Annex.

The style incorporated large Romanesque arches and steep pitched roofs with a complex assortment of turrets, dormers and several chimneys which all mean difficult roof repair and replacement projects for most roofing companies, but not for us at Fixer.

While the buildings were originally large single family homes, many have been converted to student housing for U of T or multi unit housing. Many have fallen into disrepair, which also compounds the potential for roofing problems.
