We all hope that a minor leak is just that, but from time to time we will see that your shingled or flat roof will need partial upgrading or full replacement. There are many ways you can tell if you need a partial or full flat roof or shingled roof replacement.

The first question you should ask yourself is how old is your roof? That is not the only question though as we have seen 10-year-old roofs that need a full replacement and 20-year-old roofs that need only a partial section replaced. On flat roofs we come out to assess, but the biggest indicator is the seams are failing, the membrane is crumbling, and water may be pooling and not draining.

Look for these telltale signs that indicate you need a partial or full shingled roof replacement:

• Shingles that are all curling up instead of laying flat
• Granular disintegration of many of your shingles in the eaves or on the ground
• Many torn and missing shingles that show obvious wear
• Unhappy neighbours who glare at you because your roof shingles ended up in their hosta bed
